The arched rectangular plate with shaped outer slips within an acanthus-carved frame, the vertical stiles with upspringing flowered vines, the broken C- and S-scroll carved cornice with central rocaille foliate clasp, the top central plate and some border plates replaced, regilt, later backing

Lot Essay

With its two part arched plate and mirrored slip surround, the rocaille C-scroll frame of this mirror corresponds closely to a design by John Linnell dated 1770 (illustrated in H. Hayward, 'The Drawings of John Linnell in the Victoria and Albert Museum', Furniture History, 1969, Vol. V, fig. 46 and reproduced here).
