Each arched and shaped top rail above a vertical swag-hung pierced splat, the tapering square seat upholstered in machine-woven tapestry, on volute and acanthus-carved cabriole legs with lions' paw feet (2)

Lot Essay

A pair of chairs sold Parke-Bernet Galleries Inc., New York 17 October 1970, lot 126 feature the same design to the back. Another pair with this back design was advertised by Cecil Partridge in The Connoisseur, June 1923, p.XXIX.
