Of coffer form, the hinged canted top with a carved grape bunch finial over a concave molded rim opening to an interior with later removable tin lining, the panelled tapering case with guilloche frieze and stepped base, on S-scroll carved blocks and lion paw feet on wooden casters

Lot Essay

With its coffer form, carved mahogany grape bunch finial and lions' paw feet, this cellaret relates to one depicted in Rudolf Ackermann's Repository of the Arts, Vol. XIV, 2nd Series, October 1822, plate 21.
