This settee once formed part of the noted collection assembled by Mr.and Mrs. John Micklem. Iris Micklem continued to acquire pieces for the collection upon the purchase of 'Avenue Farm' in Hertfordshire following the death of her husband in 1951. Many of the pieces in the collection, reportedly including this settee, were acquired from the legendary collector Percival D. Griffiths. Griffiths was advised by R.W. Symonds, a leading furniture historian and architect, who was consulted by museums and other celebrated collectors including J.S. Sykes and Samuel Messer. The Micklem collection was published in A. Winchester, 'Living with Antiques in England: The Hertfordshire home of Mrs. John Micklem', The Magazine Antiques, February 1962, pp.205-207 which illustrated a number of Griffiths examples in this Queen Anne farmhouse setting.
