Lisa Lyon

From 1980 to 1982 Mapplethorpe took a series of photographs of Lisa Lyon, a California girl who had recently become known for winning the First Women's Bodybuilding Championship in Los Angeles in 1979. In 1983 Mapplethorpe compiled many of these images into a book entitled, Lady: Lisa Lyon; this photograph is the cover image of that book.

The print offered here probably exists in an edition of two in this large format. The location of the other print is unknown.
