A mid 19th-Century lacquered-brass theodolite of small size,
the telescope with rack and pinion focusing to the object glass, with dust cap, the fixing pins with replacement cord, mounted on a limb frame with vernier and magnifier, the axis incorporating the vertical half-circle graduated on one side 90-0-40°, on the other 30-0-30 and engraved Diff. of Hypo. & Base, raised over the horizontal plate, signed E. Davis Liverpool, the compass box with edge-bar needle and clamp and graduated 0-360°, the plate fitted with the cross bubble, with horizontal chamfered scale with verniers and magnifier and tangent screw fine adjustment and clamp, on four screw tripod mounting, with the original fitted mahogany case with separate eye-piece extension, with two brass hooks and eyes and four brass strap loops -- 8.5/8in. (21.9cm.) wide
