The RMMP, a battalion of the Burma Military Police based in Mogok, was originally recruited from Sikhs, Punjabis and Hindustani Mussulmans. In 1888, 85 Gurkhas were added, and by 1900 Gurkhas and Garhwalis formed the majority of the battalion. Thereafter the proportion of Gurkhas gradually declined, and by 1909 there were only two Gurkha companies, one of which was transferred to the Northern Shan States Battalion the following year. In 1914, the RMMP was absorbed into the Mandalay Battalion, which was directly descended from the first Burma Police levies, and which survived until 1942.
