1025 Private William Johnstone attested for the 24th Foot in January 1877 and was killed in action at Isandhlwana on 22.1.1879, while serving in 'G' Company of the 2nd Battalion. His effects were claimed by his father (The Noble 24th, by Norman Holmes, refers).
