Flight Commander Louis Duncan Morrison became a specialist in meteorology and was seconded from the Royal Naval Reserve to the R.N.A.S. Station at Howden in Yorkshire in June 1916. Tragically, on 21.7.1917, he was lost in an Airship over the Humber:
'He was accidentally drowned, together with several other Officers and men, whilst flying in an Airship for the purpose of taking observations of air current. The Airship, when over the North Sea, developed a bad leak and finally came down in the sea near the coast. His body was recovered and buried near his home' (Tonbridge School Roll of Honour refers).
