Lot Essay

Flight Lieutenant Stanley Hooper first entered the French Theatre of War with the 1st Welsh Howitzer Brigade, R.F.A., Territorial Force in June 1915, but subsequently transferred to the Royal Flying Corps, qualified as an Aeroplane and Seaplane Officer and was advanced to the rank of Honorary Captain in the newly formed R.A.F. in April 1918. Appointed a Flying Officer in the R.A.F.V.R. in August 1939, Hooper was Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 1.1.1943 refers).
