Lot Essay

Guardsman Richard Mark Bates was born in September 1961 and enlisted into the Welsh Guards at Wrexham in March 1979. In addition to two tours in Northern Ireland, from November 1979 to February 1980 and February 1986 to July 1986, Bates fought with the Royal Marines in the Falklands Campaign and was wounded. His conduct was described as 'Exemplary' when discharged in June 1986.
