Lot Essay

The present bust is from Dalou's lifesize standing figure The Woman of Boulogne which was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1872. This work is consistant with bronzes cast by Angelo Cortioni during Dalou's years in England (unmarked and heavy in weight).
