AN APULIAN RED-FIGURE COLUMN KRATER ATTRIBUTED TO THE HAIFA GROUP
CIRCA 350-325 B.C.
Side A: an Oscan warrior wearing a belted striped tunic, calf-length boots and a spotted conical headdress, a chlamys over his left arm, holding two spears and a bunch of flowers, looks back towards a draped woman who stoops down bearing a laden basketwork situla, a fillet hanging above, plants in the field
Side B: two facing youths wearing himations, each holding a staff, between them a quartered disc and above a rectangular writing tablet bound with string and with a stylus across it
Each side with meander groundline, double dotted borders flanking the scene with tongued band above, the neck with scrolling ivy leaf tendrils and dotted flowers, a double band of dots below the rim, 'S'-meander around the rim, palmettes on the handles, details in added white and yellow
