A SUMERIAN PINK LIMESTONE CYLINDER SEAL
JEMDET NASR, CIRCA 3100-2900 B.C.
With a row of four 'pig-tailed' women seated on mats with a pot before them and holding another pot in their hands, .7/8 in. (2.2 cm.) high; a large Iranian black stone cylinder seal with two griffins confronting over a recumbent bull, a stylized plant behind them, late 2nd millennium B.C., 1.7/8 in. (4.6 cm.) high; an Akkadian serpentine cylinder seal with a worshipper led before a seated deity, another figure behind holding a bucket, a plant and star in the field, circa 2300 B.C., 1¼ in. (3.1 cm.) high; an Old Babylonian haematite cylinder seal, a deity and worshipper with a ball-and-staff between them, ¾ in. (1.9 cm.) high; another, haematite, with a king before a suppliant goddess, symbols between them, a two line cuneiform inscription reading ''Nergal, Mamitum'', chipped, .7/8 in. (2.2 cm.) high, both 18th Century B.C.; a black stone cylinder seal with a tree, figures and a scorpion, second half of 2nd millennium B.C., 1¾ in. (4.4 cm.) high; the upper part of an Iranian haematite seal with a deity holding a globe staff above an animal, and a seated deity holding a ball staff being approached by a worshipper, circa 1400-1300 B.C., ¾ in. (1.9 cm.) high; an Iranian(?) mottled grey stone cylinder seal, an archer shooting at a quadruped, early 1st millennium B.C., 1¼ in. (3 cm.) high; an Iranian(?) black stone cylinder seal with two dogs, a mythical creature, star and crescent, .7/8 in. (2.2 cm.) high; an Iranian(?) chalcedony cylinder seal with a four-winged genie flanked by two rampant winged creatures, a bird in the field, 1.1/8 in. (2.9 cm.) high; a North Assyrian yellow stone cylinder seal with a king and attendant flanking a stand supporting a winged crescent standard, a crescent moon, wedge, star and tree in the field, 1 in. (2.5 cm.) high, all 1st millennium B.C.; and eleven other hardstone cylinder seals, some recut (a lot)
