A Castelli oval two-handled tureen and cover
Circa 1720
The tureen with foliage scroll handles and painted with a continuous scene between brown and ochre line borders, one side with Neptune embracing his wife Amphitrite pointing to fruit held by a Nereid, the other side with a satyr embracing a nymph, she pouring wine for a putto and attended by winged putti with flowers, fruit and wine-ewers, on a spreading moulded oval foot, the shallow domed cover with garlands of flowers strewn by four winged putti about a knop finial (tureen broken through, repaired and riveted, cover with minor slight chipping to underside of rim and small chip to finial)
