Provenance: With the contemporary ownership signatures of Elizabeth Heathcote and Elizabeth Cooke Trench and the latter's armorial bookplate. Elizabeth Heathcote is the Elizabeth Bigg of Manydown Park. Austen often visited the Bigg family at their estate and Elizabeth remained a friend throughout life. Jane's letters contain frequent references to the comfortable and enduring friendship between them. (15)
