A GLAZED REDWARE FLOWERPOT AND SAUCER
ATTRIBUTED TO HENRY FAHR, B. 1821, MT. AETNA, TULPEHOCKEN TOWNSHIP, BERKS COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, 1867-1885

Cylindrical tapering, with ruffled rim and saucer and pressed ruffled bands with applied foliate floral decorations, the surface glazed with dark brown/black mangone se glaze--8¼in. high, 8¾in. diam.

Lot Essay

Born in 1821, Henry Fahr first appears as a potter in Tulpehocken Township, Berks County in 1867. From 1870-1888 he is listed a a potter and tenant on the John Crouse property. The Fahr pottery is marked in the 1876 atlas on West Market Street in Mt. Aetna, and in 1891 he is listed as a laborer living elsewhre in the Tulpehocken area.
