Lot Essay

Anthony Wise Baecher was born in 1824 in Bavaria and learned the pottery trade from from his father. He entered the United States in 1848 through Ellis Island. He worked in Adams County, Pennsylvania and in 1853 settled in Frederick County, Virginia. In 1862 he bought 46 acres east of Winchester, where he opened his pottery. He died March 31, 1889.
