Lot Essay

Conrad Mumbouer was born in 1764 and worked with Michael and Henry Stoneback who were potters in Haycock Township, Bucks County. A 1796 tax assessment shows Mumbouer as owner of one old log house, one barn and one pottery shop. He purchased land in 1833 in Springfield Township, but continued to work in Haycock Township. He died in 1845, with and estate worth $3,913. Simon Singer, potter and maker of lot 191 in this sale, bought the Conrad Mumbouer pottery in a sherrif's sale for $2,500.
