Lot Essay

Active from 1786-1812, Friederich Krebs worked in several Southeastern Pennsylvania counties including Berks, Bucks, Dauphin, Lancaster, Montgomery, Northampton, and in Philadelphia. Although he was probably a schoolmaster, Krebs conducted an active business in Geburts und Taufscheine. He is known to have ordered in 1804 almost 2000 fraktur blanks from the Reading Adler office; likewise, his estate inventory listed, "a lot of papers picterd [sic] and papers for birth Dayes [sic]." His estate owed John Ritter & Company $2.67 for printing 500 Taufscheine.
