A PIECED AND APPLIQUED COTTON QUILTED COVERLET
SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA OR NORTHERN MARYLAND, CIRCA 1820 - 1850

Worked in twenty squares as an Album Quilt in plain woven cottons and printed calicoes on a speckled peach ground in maroon, green, pale pink, royal blue, yellow, red, dark blue and orange in a variety of motif squares including oak leaf, garland bough, tulips, garland wreath, bird-in-bush, garlanded lyre, the whole enclosed by a meandering vine set with flowers and berry bunches with green cotton binding, two corner border flowers signed, "Rolanda W. Rupp" (?), the whole worked in contrasting diagonal quilting--93in. square
