Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
Not in original wooden case
Tasting note: Initially opaque, as can be expected in a good year, and intense, the vivid purple pressing the sides of the glass; nose tort, a bit unyielding; the sweetness of ripe grapes, full-bodied, firm flesh, like the sort of young girl's bottom that elderly Frenchmen have a predilection for pinching. Good texture, length, and acidity. More recently, the nose low-keyed at first but after 20 minutes developed a beautiful scent of spice and fruit. Some of the inherent '89 charm apparent. Sweet, great length. Will make an archetypal Lafite, combining power and elegance. MB.
