Designed in the 'Antique' manner popularised by Messrs. Percier and Fontaine in their Recueil des Décorations Intérieures of 1801, this candelabrum is close in character to the oeurve of the bronzier Claude Galle. A pair of candelabra of almost identical model were sold Christie's, New York, 21 October, 1997, lot 318 ($41,400). Another similar pair were sold in Christie's, New York, 27 May 1999, lot 209 ($57,500).
