John Lennon
A single-breasted tailored jacket of black velvet decorated with a cream satin piped trim detail, lined with dove grey satin; accompanied by a note from David Christian explaining the provenance of the jacket, given to him by Lennon at Abbey Road Studios in circa 1967 after Christian had been mistaken for Lennon by fans ...Although I bore only a passing resemblance to Lennon...one evening, outside Abbey Road, I was dragged by over eager fans from my Packard convertible, the car featured on the Oldies but Goldies cover [see previous lot]..my nose was split and my jacket bloodied. Inside, bandaid applied and compusure restored, Lennon offered me this jacket to wear as we were going on to some industry bash. Later on when I tried to return the jacket he said I should keep it...; and a Lennon promo. pin badge you are here -- 1in. (2.5cm.) diam. - obtained by Christian from an exhibition of Lennon's drawings at the Robert Fraser Gallery, circa 1966/1967 (2)
