Lot Essay
The present lot is the second known dated work by the artist whose artistic output was small. Another work is recorded as being signed and dated 1756, see E.J. Sluyter (ed.), Leidse Fijnschilders, 1988, p.77, fig.76.
As pointed out by E.J. Sluyter, op.cit., p.202, the artist was a pupil of Hieronymus van der Mij, whose influence is evident in the present picture, especially in the colour scheme. Rijnenburgh's subject matter seems to have been limited to household scenes.
