Lot Essay

Eaton Hall near Chester, the residence of the Duke of Westminster, was designed by Alfred Waterhouse and built between 1870 and 1882 at a cost of over £600,000.

Similar guilloché enamelled painted sepia plaques of views are only in the collection of Her Majesty the Queen at Sandringham and in the collection of His Majesty The King of Thailand in Bangkok. All the frames are made by Henrik Wigström and are extremely rare on the market. The Duchess of Westminister was known to be an avid buyer at the Fabergé London branch. We would like to thank Harry Williams-Bulkeley for his prompt and efficient research for locating the above view.
