Lot Essay

A nearly identical basting spoon, also with hidden marrow scoop, is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum. Made in 1777 by Jacobus Helweg of Amsterdam, it is illustrated in Jan Rudolph de Lorm, Amsterdams Goud en Zilver, Rijksmuseum, n.d. [1999], p. 409, fig. 290.
