This dowry piece or bedcover was probably woven in the Gards or Villands district in northeast Scania. This basic design can be seen in over fifty extant examples, mainly in Swedish Collections. The inclusion of figures in traditional dress and small birds in this example, demonstrates how the weaver has freedom of expression within the confines of the design. For a comparable weaving please see Viveka Hansen, Swedish Textile Art: Traditional Marriage Weavings from Scania, The Khalili Collection, The Nour Foundation, London, 1996, no. 48, pp. 130-131.
