Lot Essay

Bakalowits built up its reputation during the second half of the 19th century commissioning designs for glassware from a variety of prominent designers to be manufactured in chosen factories in Bohemia.
They won a range of prizes at the international exhibitions including the Paris exhibition of 1900 when they exhibited work by Koloman Moser (See Lot 6) and the Turin Exhibition of 1902. They went on to commission glasses and lights from Otto Prutscher manufactured by Meyr's Neffe (See Lot 10) as well as work from Josef Olbrich, Hans Bolek and Gustav Gurschner.

Three volumes of designs are held in the collections of the Museum fr angewandte Kunst in Vienna.
