Lot Essay

Szabo, a native of Hungary, became a member of the SOCIéTé DES ARTISTES DéCORATEURS in 1907. A stylistic shift in his work became apparent after 1918 when his traditional designs began to show the angular influence of Art Deco, as illustrated by the present Lot. One of Szabo's most noted designs was for the bronze dining room door of the ocean liner Normandie.
