Lot Essay

Baguès Frères produced a wide variety of lighting fixtures and iron work in both modern and old style pieces, Louis XIV and Empire especially. They elaborated and mixed the two, using fountains, fruit, flowers, animals and even a windmill for their subjects.
Their preferred media, well illustrated in this example, were clear or opalescent glass beads and rock crystal set in silvered or gilt mounts.
