A BRUSSELS HISTORICAL TAPESTRY FRAGMENT
Late 16th early 17th Century
Woven in wools and silks, depicting a victorious Roman general seated on a throne and surrounded by his elders, receiving the crown and keys of a city of a defeated adversary who is kneeling before him, behind him with further soldiers bringing spoils and the foreground littered with further spoils, the middle distance with the same group bringing the spoils on camels and the distance with a hilly landscape, within a later brown and blue outer slip, reduced from a larger tapestry and with later brown and blue slip, small areas of patching and restoration
