Both cal. 43, with fully jewelled Quality 1A gilt-finished three quarter plate lever movements, screwed gold chatons, blued screws, bimetallic compensation balances with gold screws, gold levers and escape wheels, swan neck regulators, diamond endstones, glazed dust covers, No. 40004 with white enamel dial with Roman numerals, sunk centre and subsidiary seconds, gold pear hands, in Lucia case with engine-turned back, pink gold hinges and pink gold crown, No. 40005 with white enamel dial with Roman numerals, sunk subsidiary seconds, blued steel pear hands, in plain Jrgens case with pink gold hinges and pink gold crown, both with later fitted A. Lange & Söhne presentation boxes and certificates, Uhrenmuseum Glashtte certificates and two copies from the registers, both cases, cuvettes, dials and movements signed

Watch number 40004 was sold on 3 March 1897 to M. Steinberger, Vienna, number 40005 on 5 April 1897 to Ludwig Tesdorpf, Stuttgart.

This unusual pair belongs to a small series of ten openface watches with Quality 1A 19''' (caliber 43) movements, numbered 40001 - 40010. The first five cases were made in silver, the others in pink gold and all were sold in 1897.
