Originally built in 1904 by Harland & Wolff for P & O's Australian Run and launched as the S.S. Macedonia, she was converted in just nine days in August 1914 into an Armed Merchant Cruiser with 8 4.7in. guns. Her most significant action was to serve with H.M.S. Bristol as a supply ship during the Battle of the Falkland Islands and between them sank Admiral von Spee's supply ships Baden and Santa Isabel. She was finally returned to P & O in 1921 and placed on the Far Eastern service. She was scrapped in Japan in June 1931.
