Lot Essay

Guru is a typical example of the stern wheel paddle steamers exported in their hundreds to Far Eastern destinations in the Ninteenth Century. Originally 50½" long with an 11" beam, they were built on the Clyde and shipped in 'kit' form, to be assembled on arrival at Rangoon. Her original prototype was owned by the Irrawadi Flotilla Company and operated on the Chindwin River.
