Lot Essay

Built for Lloyd Brazilero by Craig, Taylor & Co. of Stockton in 1907, Acre was a steel cargo steamer ordered for the South Atlantic trade. Registered in Rio de Janeiro at 2,587 tons gross (1,555 net), she measured 300 feet in lenght with a 40½ foot beam and was engined by Blair's, also of Stockton. For unexplained reasons she was renamed Rodrigues Alves in 1923 but continued operating for her original owners throughout her long life until scrapped in 1965.
