Lot Essay
The Danish twin-screw cargo motorship Chr. Sass. was built for D/S. A/S. Myren by Burmeister & Wain at Copenhagen in 1931. Registered in Copenhagen at 3,812 tons gross (2,319 net and 7,170 deadweight), she measured 365½ feet in length with a 53½ foot beam and was powered by her builder's own 12-cylinder 541nhp. engines to give a service speed of 11 knots. In 1941, due to the wartime conditions and the occupation of her own country of registry, she passed into Uruguayan ownership and was temporarily renamed Colonia. Surviving the War, she was returned to her Danish owners in 1946 and reverted to her original name of Chr. Sass.
