Lot Essay

The Danish twin-screw cargo motorship Asbjørn was built for D/S. A/S. Myren by Burmeister & Wain at Copenhagen in 1935. Registered in Copenhagen at 4,387 tons gross (3,075 net and 8,000 deadweight), she measured 378½ feet in length with a 55 foot beam and was powered by her builder's own 10-cylinder 676nhp. engine to give a service speed of 13 knots. Following the German invasion of Denmark in April 1940 - when presumably Asbjørn was safe at sea - she was taken over and managed by the Canadian Government for the duration of the War but returned to her original owners in 1946.
