H.M.S. Repulse was almost the last to be completed of the seven "Royal Sovereign" class battleships laid down between 1889 and 1891. Built at Pembroke Dock, Repulse was launched in February 1892 and commissioned into the Channel Fleet in April 1894. Displacing 14,150 tons and principally armed with 4-13½ guns, her secondary armament was equally impressive and she could make 18 knots at full steam. After eight years with the Channel Squadron followed by a brief spell in the Mediterranean from March 1902 to April 1903, she was then placed in reserve and, despite two refits, was broken up in 1911 having seen no further active service.
