Glandinorwig was an iron barque built by Doxford's at Sunderland in 1876. One of four practically identical vessels ordered by D.P. Williams & Co.'s Gwynedd Shipping Company, she was registered at 1,107 tons gross (1,081 net) and measured 219½ feet in length with a 35 foot beam. Sailing out of her home port of Caernarvon bound for New York, she was involved with the emigrant trade taking Welsh quarrymen to work the American slate industry and usually returned home with either Canadian timber or cotton from New Orleans.
