The so-called Blackwall frigate Nile was built for R. Green at the Blackwall Yard and launched in 1850. Registered at 1,182 tons, she measured 173 feet in length with a 36½ foot beam, and traded from London to India. Her first master, Captain Nisbet, kept her for over ten years before relinquishing his command and by the mid-1870's she had also changed owners who put her into the Mediterranean trade.
