Boucher (1703-70) treated this subject several times. The version from which this tapestry is taken was painted in 1747, and now hangs in the Louvre. It formed part of the series of the 'Loves of the Gods' tapestries made at Beauvais from 1750. Boucher had become a designer for the factory in 1734.
