Amorsolo was an immensely successful artist during his lifetime. From the 50s onwards and throughout the 60s, the artist enjoyed a long queue of collectors asking for commissioned works. The subject matter most favoured by the collectors was undoubtedly the one of the planting rice. This scene was repeatedly reconstructed by Amorsolo due to ppopular demands and also because of Amorsolo's own attachment to the subject. ALthough his thematic range had become rather inflexible, it was Amorsolo's ability to create so many different versions of the same subject which made them remarkable.
Inspite of the fact that the compositions were frequently executed by Amorsolo, he continued to make sketches before he executed it on the canvas. This remianed a persistent meticulous habit which explains the immaculate structure of the composition.
