Second edition of these commentaries on the Psalms by Hugues de Saint-Cher, the first Cardinal of the Dominican order. Regarded by his contemporaries as the "oracle" of Bible commentators, he produced an exhaustive revision of the text of the Bible, the first biblical Concordance, and separate commentaries on each book of the Old and New Testaments. The first edition of the entire gloss was undertaken by Johann Amerbach for Koberger concurrently with the present edition, and completed in 1501. The first separate edition of Hugo's commentaries on the Psalms had appeared at Venice in 1496; also published separately in the 15th century was an edition of his commentaries on the Gospels (Basel 1482).
