Stella clericorum was an enormously popular text, a manual for priests with advice on how to conduct themselves, care for their flocks and interpret the Scriptures, with occasional reminders about the responsibilities and nobility of the priestly calling. ISTC lists nearly seventy incunable editions, many of which survive in only a few copies. Arnold Neumarkt of Cologne had a press in Leipzig from 1492 to 1496.
