2o (308 x 204 mm). Greek and Roman types, printer's large woodcut device on title repeated on verso of last leaf, 4- and 6-line white on black woodcut historiated initials. (Occasional narrow marginal dampstain, title creased and with small marginal inkstain). 17th-century calf over pasteboard, sides panelled in blind with large oval central stamp of the Jesuit College at Toulouse (rebacked in the ?19th century, old repairs to corners and board edges, worn).

Provenance: Joannes Coronius (Jean Coron?) (1536 ownership inscription on title) -- Jesuit College at Toulouse (inscription on title, binding).

First edition with the commentaries of Erasmus, Guillaume Budé, and others; the text is reprinted from the 1504 and 1520 Aldine editions. Johannes Herwagen, formerly a partner in the Froben publishing house, set up his own press in 1531, printing classical and patristic texts, including numerous editions in Greek, until his death in 1558 or 1559.
