Mr. Edward T.Y. Chow, a native of Jiangsu, began his career in antiques working for Zhu Heting, proprietor of Xigu Zhai in Shanghai. In 1946, Edward Chow opened his own antique shop in Shanghai with an initial capital of Two million French Francs. In the same year, he was appointed Honorary Director of the Shanghaishi Guwan Tongye Gonghui (Shanghai Antique Dealers Guild). Chow dealt with an international clientele and amassed his own world renowned collection of Ming and Qing ceramics, while becoming a millionaire in the process. He died in Switzerland in 1980.
