A large German ivory parcel-gilt silver-mounted tankard
Struck with counterfeited Augsburg mark and RC under crown for Schleissner and Söhne, Hanau, circa 1890
On domed oval base, chased with naturalistic fruit, flowers and foliage, the ivory body with an intricate carving of a medieval scene of victorious knights returning from a battle welcomed by men holding flags, women and children (some minor damages and missing parts), the silver scroll handle engraved with stylised foliage, the hinged domed cover (now loose) with waved outer rim, the raised centre with chased gadrooned foliate rim, fruit and foliage, the gadrooned finial surmounted by a pear with foliage, plain thumbpiece
