Lot Essay
Andele Andeles or Andele Eyses (1689-1754) was apprenticed to P. Dortsman in 1699, and became a master in Leeuwarden in 1709. Andele was one of the most important Frisian silversmith's of the first half of the 18th Century. He received many commisions from the Stadtholder's Court at Leeuwarden, from civic and ecclesiastical authorities, and from noble families. Perhaps this explains why his work shows the characteristics of silver from the province Holland instead of the typically Frisian style. A similar pair to the present three also by Andele Andeles and made also in 1739 is preserved in the collection of Het Fries Museum in Leeuwarden.
