Lot Essay

Jeanne Sheehy (op. cit., p. 126) describes the present work as 'Two small boys in a field of corn. Downs beyond'. She also records that 'his elder brother Charles was, for a time, curate with Father Dolling in the Portsmouth Dock area, which drew him to neighbouring Romsey, Winchester and the Hampshire Downs' (ibid., p. 23).
